Exchange Visitors Program
Educational and Cultural Programs:
International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP): This extremely popular and competitive program enhances understanding of the United States among current and future opinion leaders and policymakers. During a U.S.- based three-week program, participants are observe aspects of American social, economic, political, cultural and educational institutions and practices through meetings, workshops, seminars, site visits, and home hospitality. Additionally, participants visit historic sites and scenic areas and attend cultural events. Each year, more than 4,400 visitors from around the world participate in the IVLP program, including about 20 Ghanaians. Since its inception, 260 Ghanaians have participated, some in individual programs and others in single-country, regional, or multi-regional group projects.
Cultural Programs: The U.S. Embassy also supported and financed exciting and well received cultural programs in support of Ghana’s Golden Jubilee. The active and diverse slate of Jubilee activities included the world famous Fisk University Jubilee Singers, Morgan State University Choir, and many other seminars and workshops that highlighted our shared values. The American singers and choirs performed joint concerts to packed audiences and conducted workshops with the Winneba Youth Choir, the Tema Youth Choir and many other choral groups the major cities. This was indeed an excellent exchange opportunity for American and Ghanaian youth.
