U.S. Embassy Eases Visa Renewal Procedure
December 12, 2008 Applicants who meet the following criteria can apply at the consular section of the Embassy in Cantonments without an appointment Monday - Thursday at 1:30 pm only: · The applicant must have been issued a full validity, five-year visa to the United States; · The applicant must be in physical possession of the passport with the expired, full-validity visa in it (i.e., have not lost their passport or had it stolen); · The full-validity visa must still be valid or have expired within the last 12 months. Applicants who meet all three of the above criteria may bring the passport with the expired visa, as well as the Machine Readable Visa application fee, the completed online application forms, and supporting documents to the Consulate any Monday – Thursday at 1:30pm to apply for a new visa. The first twenty-five applicants daily will be admitted for an interview. Applicants currently in position of a valid H1B (temporary worker) and C1/D (transit/crew) visa are also welcome to renew their visa without an appointment following the same criteria.
Visitors who wish to travel to the United States will enjoy a relaxed visa renewal policy starting January 5, 2009. Applicants for Non-Immigrant Visas (NIVs) who have been issued a full-validity (5-year) non-immigrant B1/B2 visa will no longer need to schedule an appointment in order to renew their visa if it is less than 12 months expired.
